Here’s how to spend two days in Dubrovnik if you visit Croatia.
I suggest stopping there for at least two days because there are many things to see, plus the atmosphere is really enjoyable, you will spend hours wandering in the charming little streets.
Dubrovnik is a historic coastal city in southern Croatia, located on the Adriatic Sea. Known for its well-preserved medieval walls, stunning Old Town, and breathtaking seaside views, it is one of the country’s most famous tourist destinations.
Here’s the ultimate Dubrovnik itinerary, from the Rector’s Palace to the Lungo Mare Uvala Lapad promenade, including the charming Old Town !
- Day One : Sponza Palace – Porat Dubrovnik – Rector’s Palace – Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary – Saint Ignatius Church – Dubrovnik West Harbour – Lovrijenac Fortress
- Day Two : Dominican Monastery – Uvala Lapad Beach – Lungo Mare Uvala Lapad
Day One
Day One Circuit : 6 stops, 30 minutes of walk.
Start your day by exploring Dubrovnik Old Town before it gets too hot. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a real maze of countless little streets !
You’ll likely start via Pile Gate, which is the grand entrance to the Old Town, dating back to the 16th century. From there, Stradun, the Main Street will lead you directly to our first stop : Sponza Palace, a Renaissance palace built in the 16th century, housing Dubrovnik’s archives.
Entrance fee : Tickets are 5€.
Opening Hours: Everyday from 9am to 3pm, closed on Sunday.

A few meters from the palace is the old port of Dubrovnik, or Porat Dubrovnik, a beautiful waterfront area :

A 3-minute walk will take you to the Rector’s Palace, a Gothic-Renaissance palace that used to house the city’s rulers. It is now home to the Cultural History Museum.
Entrance fee : 15€ for adults, 8€ for students.
Opening Hours: 9am to 4pm in winter and until 6pm in summer.

Close by you will also discover the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary a Baroque church that was rebuilt in the 17th century after an earthquake.
Entrance fee : Entrance is free, there is a small fee to visit the Treasury.
Opening Hours: Everyday from 8am to 7pm, Sunday from 11h30 to 7pm.

Two minutes of walk further and you will reach Saint Ignatius Church, a Baroque church at the top of the Jesuit Stairs. Those Baroque stairs became excessively famous after Game of thrones. I personally found the area way too crowded to enjoy the monuments, so maybe try to go early morning, but those are stairs really.
Every website will recommend to do the notorious 2km walk along the medieval City Walls to get views of the Adriatic Sea, but in my opinion this is absolutely NOT worth 40€ ! It is an excessive amount of money for a walk.
Instead, I recommend walking from St Ignatius Church to Lovrijenac Fortress. It is a 15-minute walk to Dubrovnik West Harbour (also featured in Game of Thrones), and you get to see amazing views as well :

At the end of this short walk, you’ll reach Lovrijenac Fortress, standing on a 37-meter-high sea cliff just beyond the city walls.
Opening Hours: Everyday from 9am to 3pm.
Price: Included in the City Walls ticket which is 40€.

Day Two
Day Two Circuit : 3 stops, 1 hour of walk.
Start of your second day at the Dominican Monastery, a Gothic-Renaissance monastery from the 14th century displaying an art collection.
Entrance Fee: 5€
Opening Hours: Daily: Everyday from 9am to 4pm.
If you prefer to walk and enjoy the beautiful city views along the way, consider heading to this viewpoint, located 20 minutes uphill from the monastery, and then go back down toward the waterfront, the views will be amazing :

After a morning of city adventure, you might fancy a relaxing afternoon by the beach.
Well, first off, I wouldn’t recommend Bellevue beach and Plaža Banje as there are far too crowded and touristy.
Now, if you are looking for a beach in a tiny bit more secluded area, here is a great place to sunbathe : Uvala Lapad Beach. This is a sandy beach with sunbeds, but you will find room on the side if you brought your own towel. It is also the perfect place to watch the sunset :

Alternatively, if you’re feeling more energetic, you can continue to Lungo Mare Uvala Lapad, a scenic 4km-long coastal promenade :
