If you are spending a few days in Rome, I can’t recommend enough visiting it also by night. I share here a list of the best things to do in Rome by night.
There are more than a few spots worth seeing once the sun in down !
I went in January so the night sets pretty early (a little bit after 5:30 p.m), that gives you plenty of time to see the city by night.
The Vatican has wonderful things to see such as the museums and the Sistine Chapel, we got to enjoy the sunset in the gardens of the museums with wonderful light on the monuments.

There’s also the Piazza San Pietro with the Basilica San Pietro that is absolutely stunning by night.
St. Peter’s Basilica is a Rennaisance style church in Vatican City built between 1506 and 1626.This basilica is the largest in the world and this is where the Popes are buried.

The Severe is the 3rd longest river in Italy, and passing through Rome.
Walking along the river by night offers great views of the Castel Sant’ Angelo (a rounded castle from the II century), the Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II (a roman bridge with 3 arches), the Ponte Umberto I (the bridge with 4 arches) and the city as well.

A great way to appreciate the heart of Rome is wandering in the little streets and big squares by night.
It’s really lively, there are lots of restaurant with terrace, bars and life in the streets.
I would of course suggest seeing the Trevi Fountain by night, with the lights it really is a different experience that by day.
The pantheon is also worth the detour to your night tour !
The lovely neighbourhood of Trastevere is also really nice to wander in at night, especially Piazza Santa Maria with the basilica.

To end the night walk in Rome, I’d recommend walking to the Foro Romano. It’s a large area with temples, squares and Roman government buildings, some of which are 2,000 years old.
It’s very well illuminated at night and offers a different feeling when being in front of those vestiges.
On your way there, you’ll encounter the Altare della Patria, a majestic neoclassical temple in marble dedicated to the first king of Italy and the soldiers of the First World War.
To finish of, of course, you cannot miss seeing the Colosseo by night.
This huge Roman amphitheater with 3 levels formerly used for the gladiator fights is, in my opinion, even more monumental and impressive at night.
