If you want to plan day trips from Amsterdam, you have landed on the right article ! I’ll suggest 3 places worth visiting if you are spending a few days in The Netherlands. From charming windmills in Zaandam to the beauty of Haarlem, including the colourful tulip fields of Lisse and Keukenhof, here are some of the best spots to explore!
Zaandam is a town north of Amsterdam, which you can reach by train in less than 10 minutes. The city is known for its windmills, colorful wooden houses, and industrial history.
Other than the famous windmills, be sure to visit the Inntel Hotel in Zaandam. This hotel consists of seven stacked traditional Zaanse houses, representing the region’s wooden houses. It’s a truly unique design and an architectural marvel.
Also in Zaandam, you can visit Zaanse Schans, an open-air museum and village offering a glimpse into The Netherlands’ industrial history and craftsmanship, from cheese-making to clog-carving.

Haarlem is a cute little town located just 10 minutes away by train from Amsterdam.
With charming canals, cobbled streets, and the famous Grote Markt, it’s the perfect blend of history and Dutch charm for a day trip !

Lisse is a town known for its colourful tulip fields and charming countryside. From end of March to end of May, you will get to see stunning flower fields everywhere.
It is a short day trip from Amsterdam, around 50 minutes by bus, or 35 minutes by car.
One of the major attraction in Lisse is Keukenhof, one of the world’s largest flower gardens, with millions of blooming tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths.
In 2025, it will be open from the 20th of March until the 11th of May. Tickets on their own are 20€ but you can buy combo tickets if you are taking the bus or train to get there. Check out the details on the official website here.
