Top places to see in Lithuania

f you’re planning a trip to Lithuania, a true hidden gem in the Baltics, be sure to add the following suggestions for an authentic experience.

From the charm of Vilnius to Klaipeda seaside and the insolite Curonian Spit, I’ll show you the top places to see in Lithuania !

Note : We visited Lithuania as part of a road trip from Estonia to Lithuania, so the stops we made were roughly along the Tallin-Vilnius route.

Klaipeda

Klaipėda has a beautiful seaside with sandy beaches and holidays coastal vibes. It is the perfect place to enjoy Lithuania’s natural beauty by the Baltic Sea.

Curonian Spit

The Curonian Spit is a 98-kilometer-long peninsula that is geographically divided between Lithuania in the north and Russia’s Kaliningrad region in the south. The long and narrow strip of land is separating the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site was formed by wind and sea currents, creating massive sand dunes (some of the tallest in Europe).

The area is also renowned for its dense pine forests, the small town of Nida, the Hill of Witches in Juodkrantė, and the Parnidis Dune.

Kernavės Piliakalniai

Kernavės Piliakalniai is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an archaeological gem : this ancient site features five impressive hillforts surrounded by scenic valleys and rivers.

It is absolutely beautiful and such a unique landscape :

Vilnius

When visiting Lithuania, exploring the capital city is a must. Vilnius is a vibrant and historic destination with its Baroque Old Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), colorful streets, beautiful monuments, and stunning views from the Hill of Three Crosses.

LOOKING FOR MORE PLACES TO EXPLORE IN lithuania ?

If you have more time to visit places a bit further away from Tallinn-to-Vilnius route, I’d recommend looking at :

  • Aukštaitija National Park: Lithuania’s oldest national park, known for its lakes, forests, and traditional wooden villages.
  • Trakai Island Castle: Medieval fortress located near Vilnius.
  • Šatrija Hill: A sacred site in Lithuania with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.
  • Ladakalnis: A hill offering panoramic views of the valleys.
  • Kadagių Slėnis: A natural area known for its juniper forests, perfect for hiking.

That’s it for my recommendations on top places to see in Lithuania ! Whether you’re exploring the insolite Curonian Spit, discovering the history of Vilnius or relaxing at Klaipeda seaside, these different places provide a great palette of the country’s cultural and natural diversity.
